How I Use AI

Last updated

Introduction

I am a real person. I stand behind every word and take responsibility for my work.

AI can help me organize, edit, research, and produce, but it cannot take responsibility for what I say or how my work affects people.

I use AI to make work more efficient. I originate my ideas and drafts, create visual work or collaborate with designers, and verify every source myself. I review and stand behind every final product.

This page explains how I use AI in my communications, creative, and digital work.

Writing and content

I develop the strategy, point of view, substance, and initial drafts of my work.

AI may help me edit, organize, tighten, clarify, reformat, pressure-test, or identify gaps in material I have created. It does not decide what I believe, recommend, or publish.

I review, edit, and approve every final communication. I do not publish or send unreviewed AI output.

Research and sources

AI may assist with research by helping me identify questions, search terms, potential sources, or connections among information.

I never treat AI as a source. I locate, open, review, and verify the original source myself before using a fact, claim, quote, number, or citation. I never cite a source I have not verified.

If I cannot verify a claim, I do not publish it.

Design and creative

My visual work reflects human judgment and design craft. I create original work and collaborate with professional designers for the organizations and initiatives I support.

I do not use AI-generated images, artwork, photography, logos, brand marks, or visual treatments as final creative.

Before publishing photography, I verify that it depicts real people and that the appropriate permissions and usage rights are in place. I do not use AI-generated photography to represent real students, educators, partners, or communities.

AI may also help me write code for websites and digital tools, but I define the requirements and test the result for functionality, accessibility, and privacy before launch.

Review and accountability

AI may support my process. I remain responsible for the product.

Before publishing or sharing work, I review each final product for the following.

  • Purpose and audience
  • Strategy and point of view
  • Factual accuracy and source support
  • Length, clarity, and value to the reader
  • Accessibility
  • Brand alignment
  • Privacy and permissions
  • Final quality

My standard

AI helps me improve and move the work. It does not replace strategy, writing, design, source verification, review, or approval.

If I cannot explain it, verify it, defend it, and stand behind it, I do not publish it.
